Sinopse
O humor corrosivo que caracteriza os filmes do grupo Monty Phyton está afiadíssimo nas histórias de O Sentido da Vida. Nesse filme, a trupe de comediantes britânicos ganha a tela para satirizar a medicina, a igreja, os militares, o sexo, e tudo o que é levado a sério demais pelos seres humanos normais. A ousadia lhes valeu o Prêmio Especial do Júri no Festival de Cannes. O Sentido da Vida mostra porque eles fazem sucesso há três décadas na TV e no cinema de todo o mundo. O Monty Python começou na BBC de Londres em 1969 e logo se espalhou pelo mundo com suas apresentações ao vivo, livros e filmes imperdíveis. Este foi o último filme da trupe que se separou após este trabalho. Em seus filmes, já satirizaram desde Rei Arthur, símbolo máximo da nobreza, justiça e coragem britânicas (Monty Phyton e o Santo Graal, 1975) à Jesus (A Vida de Brian, 1979), personagem que dispensa apresentações.

The Meaning of Life, ou O sentido da vida , é o terceiro filme do grupo inglês Monty Python. Realizado em 1983 e dirigido por Terry Jones, o filme tenta chegar a um final esclarecedor quanto à dúvida do início feita por um grupo de peixes num aquário: "Por quê?", ou seja, a questão da vida.

Ao contrário dos dois filmes anteriores produzidos pelo grupo, esse não se trata de uma história longa e contínua, e sim de sucetivos sketches, voltanto ao formato original dos episódios de Monty Python's Flying Circus. No total são apresentados sete partes, com temas que vão do nascimento até a morte, passando pelas diversas fases da vida de uma pessoa.

O filme, na realidade, não apresenta o sentido da vida como uma resposta concreta. Tampouco aborda durante toda a obra o tema. A vida humana é revista pelo filme em tons de comédia, fazendo alusões críticas e irônicas a vícios culturais e a problemas da sociedade, ou ainda a questão da infimidade do homem em comparação com o Universo e o todo.
